On Wednesday, April 15, police in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, arrested an individual they believe has been dealing drugs. He is currently facing various drug charges that carry significant penalties if prosecuting attorneys are able to achieve a conviction. As the accused has a lot on the line, he would likely benefit from the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney when he goes to trial.
According to reports, investigators had been tracking the activities of the accused -- a 36-year-old male -- for roughly two months before taking him into custody. They say he spent quite a bit of time between three different residences. When the homes were searched, authorities allegedly found drugs, drug paraphernalia, weapons and a significant amount of cash.
The accused was located at one of the homes and promptly arrested. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. It is unclear when his case will go to trial.
Drug charges are taken seriously by the state of Louisiana, particularly if one is accused of distribution. The potential consequences include incarceration and hefty fines, among others. In this case, it does not help that the accused has priors on his criminal record. While it is the current charges that should matter, prosecuting attorneys will likely use his history against him when his case is heard in court. Thankfully, with the assistance of an experienced criminal defense attorney, the accused can keep the focus on the matter currently at hand as he fights the charges in order to seek a case dismissal or reduction in charges.
